| Hello and thanks for visiting my site. Cyrus Sound is an audio studio, and offers a variety of audio and video services.
Located in Bethel Park, PA, south of Pittsburgh, Cyrus Sound serves as the company name for all of my freelance work. Founded in 1981, Cyrus Sound has over 25 years experience in professional audio. Cy Anderson, the principal of Cyrus Sound, began playing guitar at the age of 10 and has played all styles of music and toured the United States as a professional musician. Cy is a full-time faculty member in Digital Film and Video Production at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and he was formerly Audio Production Engineer for WPGH-TV and also WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh. He is a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and a member of the University Film and Video Association. Cy has a B.S. from Penn State, and an M.S.Ed from Duquesne University.
Cy did some tech work at the Pepsi Roadhouse in Burgettstown PA, and occasionally still does. The Roadhouse was nominated for a Country Music Association award in 2005 as one of the top 5 country venues in the U.S. Over the years, Cy mixed monitors for Josh Turner, Loretta Lynn, Dierks Bentley, Poco, Josh Gracin, The Georgia Satellites, Atlanta Rhythm Section, The Four Tops, Bobby Blue Bland, Great White and many other acts, national and local. He has also run video for many shows; Kenny Rogers and Little River Band, to name just a few.
Current News:
December 2011:
A very busy year comes to a close. I still continued audio post work for John Vosel, who produced some holiday music. In April, I produced a soundtrack for a Pittsburgh Pirate Parrot animation, in association with Mike Schwab and Kensington Falls Animation. A new mobile HD television system at the Art Institute took much of the second half of the year, between testing and teaching the Multicamera Production class at the school. For 2012, I will be working on catching up, and releasing a new album.
November 2010
Finished posting Cy's "new" release on iTunes, titled "Timeless". It is a collection of my favorite guitar pieces, all composed and played by myself, with the exception of some of the live drums. It features 14 songs, recorded over the past 30 years, some old and some new. I have been working on it all fall, and am currently not performing. The album is still instrumental, but I am contemplating a vocal release soon. Please check it out and let us know what you think! To some extent, it is my life's work.
September 2010
It's been a busy year; in the winter and early spring, I edited a video for my neice, Dr. Diane Romaine, who is a dentist. She has donated medical equipment to several African nations, and had me produce a video from all the clips they sent her, to solicit more donations.
In the studio, I continued to work with John Vosel, who has released several new compilations of work we have done with his music. I also recorded Letti Pacinelli, who is the daughter of a good friend of Larry Carlin, a prominent San Francisco musician.
Having rehearsed with a new band headed up by JD Taylor for several months, everyone had too little time, and the project was abandoned.
In August, I traveled to the University Film and Video Association's annual conference hosted by Champlain College, in Burlington Vermont, and saw some great work being done by other colleges.
Currently, I am finally getting some time to work on my own release, hopefully sometime before Christmas...stayed tuned!
January 2010
Since the summer I have digitized, edited and mixed
many more songs for John Vosel, who released Pittsburgh Blues Volume 1
over the summer, and who will be releasing Volume 2 very soon. It's
Pittsburgh stuff, through and through, for all the Black and Gold fans
out there everywhere. I also have continued working musically, over
the summer with the Blythe Brothers, and currently with a new band with
old Timbreline bandmates JD Taylor and Glenn Coleman, and new drummer
Blane Allan. We are currently rehearsing, but will be playing out in
the spring. I also continue to mix Killer Moose, and occasionally work
a show out at the Pepsi Roadhouse. I still hope to find time to
release my own material, which is way behind in schedule.
Elliot continues working with Joy Ike, as well as
playing some dates on his own. He is accepting bookings for weddings
if you are in need of some great cello music!
July 2009
I have still been working on releases for John Vosel, and I have edited and mixed many new songs for him this year. With my school schedule there has not been much time for me to work on my own material, but I hope to finish another release over the summer, so keep watching!
Elliot has been working with the fabulous Joy Ike, a Pittsburgh singer/songwriter and playing local Pittsburgh engagements. See joyike.com for more information!
January 2009
It's been a while since I have updated the site, just been pretty busy since the fall. John Vosel and I have still been working together, and he has made a great Halloween CD here at Cyrus Sound, titled simply "Halloween Blues", "by John Vosel and the Boogie Monsters". Also available is the CD "Tunes from the Tomb" by Frank N. Stein and the Monster Mashers. We had a great time making it, and while novelty music to an extent, you'll love "The Skeletones" a spoof about Halloween stuff and bands!
Myself, I am finally beginning work on a new iTunes release, and releasing previously unreleased material as well as some new stuff. Watch for it soon, my target is March.
Over the past summer and fall, I worked shows at Pepsi Roadhouse, including the Progfest, Edgar Winter and Atlanta Rhythm Section and George Jones. I also did a show with local country artist Brynn Marie and Jo Dee Messina in Waynesburg. I also contined doing sound for local Pittsburgh band Killer Moose.
April 2008
John Vosel is back in the studio working on a new release of his best funk music. Cy has been mixing shows for Killer Moose, a great local Pittsburgh classic rock band (go to killermoose.com for information on their shows), as well as doing occasional shows at Pepsi Roadhouse.
January (08) Happy 2008!
Planned for the year is another release on iTunes, we have had some success with the Internet "Guitoons" release. Elliot will be recording with Cy in the new future, and watch for the release of a new album. Cyrus Sound is now listed with Pittsburgh Live Music: www.mediawebsource.com/pittsburghlive
September (07) Cy Anderson's "Guitoons" is available for purchase on iTunes, click on the link above on this page, or just go to the iTunes Music Store and search either "Cy Anderson" or "guitoons" and you'll go right to it. We're getting a great reaction, and if you'd like to post a review be our guest. Two new songs feature the mellow cello of Elliot Anderson as well. John Vosel's material recorded at Cyrus Sound is also available on iTunes, just search "John Vosel"- it is a bold new day in music distribution for sure! Just released by John is his new CD "When the Blues Hits the Fan" and it is a toe-tapping blues album for sure, check it out!
June (07) A NEW revised selection of Cy's "Guitoons" songs will be available on iTunes on or around August 22. Please tell your friends to give them a listen. Some of these are all new acoustic tracks, featuring Elliot's cello. We hope you like them! John Vosel is now working with Cy on a new Blues CD, and we think it is his best stuff yet.
December (06), Just released on December 1 is a compilation CD of student work at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, partially mixed and mastered at Cyrus Sound, with the aid of Patrick Mostyn. The album is called "Sonic Collage" and all proceeds from sales go to the EDMC Education Foundation for student scholarships. Please contact Cy if you would like a copy, it is an eclectic bunch of songs all produced by AiP students. Only $10, and well worth it!
